Research program

There are a number of research groupings within the Centre for Kidney Research. Membership of the groupings overlaps extensively, and the research methodologies which are employed include clinical trials, cohort studies, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, epidemiological surveys, questionnaires and qualitative methods such as focus groups, laboratory studies, use of human blood and tissue samples and animal models.

Our current research includes:

  • Aboriginal Health
    • ARDAC [Antecedents for Renal Disease in Aboriginal Children]
    • SEARCH [Study of Environment on Aboriginal Resilience and Child Health]
  • Cancer & Kidney Disease
  • CARI Guidelines [Caring for Australasians with Renal Impairment]
  • Continence Research
    • NEAT study
    • Voiding disorders in children
  • Cochrane Renal Group
  • Support for people with chronic kidney disease[CKD]
  • Getting Research into Practice
  • STEP [Screening and Test Evaluation Program]
    • FEVER Study
    • Monitoring
    • Diagnostic tests

Our laboratory is looking at rejection and tolerance of kidney transplants and the possible causes and treatment of a variety of renal diseases, including those with genetic causes and developing new treatments for atherosclerosis, a major problem in patients with kidney disease.

  • Glomerulonephritis Research
  • Renal Genetics
  • Transplantation Research
