The Sydney Children's Hospitals Network has two active respiratory research centres, The Children's Chest Research Centre based at The Children's Hospital at Westmead, and the Molecular and Integrative Cystic Fibrosis (miCF) Research Centre ®, based at the Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick (who also investigate the effect of cystic fibrosis on non-respiratory systems).
Our research focus on the causes, diagnosis, investigation and treatment of respiratory illness in children, in particular cystic fibrosis (CF), non-CF bronchiectasis, asthma and the respiratory consequences of diseases and disorders of other body systems.
We are also engaged in new methods of disease modelling, for example using stem cell-derived human ‘mini organs’ (organoids), and are active in many international clinical trials.
