Centre for Acute Care Research

Thousands of children suffering acute illnesses or traumatic injuries are admitted to Emergency or Intensive Care Units of paediatric hospitals every year. Appropriate care and rapid treatment of children is vital to survival and recovery.

The Centre for Acute Care Research investigates the best way to deliver this care and improve outcomes for children in these life-threatening situations, by incorporating the research efforts of the Centre for Trauma Care, Children's Perioperative Lab (Department of Anaesthaesia), Kids Critical Care (Emergency and Peadiatric Intensive Care) and Toxicology at The Children's Hospital at Westmead.

Our researchers are also clinicians treating children in emergency scenarios every day. We are aware of the knowledge gaps in paediatric acute care, and work towards providing the answers that will save children's lives.
