Director of Research
> Professor Chris Cowell
The Kids Research Institute is led by Professor Chris Cowell, Director of Research for the Sydney Children's Hospital Network. He is a Conjoint Professor of the University of Sydney and Staff Specialist in Paediatric Endocrinology.
Chris’ major focus is in developing research strategies that will provide the most impact in improving health of young people. Facilitating research by effective collaborations is a key platform and he is co-leading the development of Paediatrio, a joint research iniative between Sydney Children's Hospital Network, Children’s Cancer Institute and Children’s Medical Research Institute with affiliated universities, University of Sydney and UNSW. He has co-led the development of the Paediatric Trials Network Australia (PTNA) which is hosted by Sydney Children's Hospital Network.
His own research interests are in prevention of metabolic effects of obesity and optimising bone health. Professor Cowell has >180 peer review publications. He has designed and conducted randomised controlled trials, participates in cohort studies and is currently a Co-Chief Investigator on a NHMRC-funded Partnership Project, CareTrak Kids that assesses whether health care for children is delivered according to best evidence and guidelines.
