
NSW Governor visits Kids Research
Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AO QC, Governor of New South Wales and Mr Dennis Wilson visited Kids Research as part of the Westmead Research Hub tour on Thursday, August 1st 2019.
The Governor and Mr Wilson started their tour by visiting Westmead Institute for Medical Research followed by Kids Research and Children's Medical Research Institute (CMRI). While at Kids Research, Her Excellency and Mr Wilson were given a tour of the different laboratories - with highlights including:
- Dr Tegan Cheng, biomedical engineer and conjoint lecturer of University of Sydney's Medical School and School of Biomedical Engineering who showcased the cutting edge 3D technologies used for paediatric medicine in Engineering Prototypes & Implants in Children (EPIC) lab.
Dr Tegan Cheng discussed the different 3D models used in the treatment for children with complex medical illness and orthopaedic conditions with Her Excellency and Mr Wilson
- Professor Joshua Burns, Director of the Paediatric Gait Analysis Service NSW gave a tour of the Paediatric Gait Analysis Lab based in Kids Research's Clinical Research Centre where 3D measurements of the movement of children with cerebral palsy are captured and analysed.
- Professor Ian Alexander, Head of the Gene Therapy Research Unit - a joint initiative with the Children's Medical Research Institute shared exciting trials that involves delivering genetic therapies using viral vectors
