Hearts and Minds Research recognised

The innovative Hearts and Minds program at The Heart Centre for Children is currently leading the world.  A/Prof Nadine Kasparian, who runs the Psychology Research Program and Clinical Service, has been awarded a prestigious National Heart Foundation Future Leader Fellowship.

The Hearts and Mind Program combines psychology research with clinical care to improve the health and wellbeing of young patients and support their families from the diagnosis of congenital heart disease through treatment.

The Cherish study is the first to explore the physical, emotional and social changes that parents experience after their baby has been diagnosed. The study also enriches our understanding of the early life experiences and needs of these babies.

Hearts and Minds is one of the cornerstones of how care is delivered at The Heart Centre for Children at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead.

The award provides major funding for her UNSW academic appointment and some of her research for several years.

The Heart Foundation has awarded almost $17 million in 90 research grants to the nation’s best and brightest researchers to investigate the causes, treatment and prevention of heart disease and related disorders.
