Construction complete for new Clinical Research Centre
Construction of the new, purpose-designed paediatric Clinical Research Centre (CRC) at Kids Research (KR) is now complete, with the builders handing over the site last week.
The CRC is the first of its kind in NSW and equal to facilities at leading paediatric hospitals internationally. It is part of the KR project at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, as part of the Westmead Redevelopment, which also included an office refurbishment.
Research conducted at the centre will vary. It will include investigational, observational and psychological studies, questionnaires, and trials, exploring everything from rare childhood diseases to food allergies. It is anticipated that more than 1000 patients will visit the centre annually when it begins seeing patients from next month.
Not only does the centre boast new consultation and treatment rooms, it also has a pharmacy, interactive kids zone and parent lounge.
Director of Research for the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network Professor Chris Cowell said: “The refurbished office space and Clinical Research Centre look great and we are looking forward to welcoming patients into the facility next month. We have enjoyed the professionalism and team approach to the build from the Westmead Redevelopment team and it is exciting to see our vision for such a cutting-edge facility come to life.”
A special thank you to Chris Cowell, Katie Babula (HI), Kirrilee Drew, Rebecca Reilly, Cate Smith, Kellie Lopez, Tom McGregor (PwC) and the FDC team for their work on the project.
